VIVA LA DIFERENCIA! | 2nd edition
A Project about Ourselves
Introduction
The so-called “mass media” has evolved dramatically over the last 20 years. Mass culture is reinforced by the advertising apparatus that constructs new realities. The construction of a parallel world by the advertising agencies is a world of perfection.
Graphic designers play a large part in contributing to the construction of this mass culture, this relationship is pronounced in most of the work of contemporary designers. To understand ourselves in the double condition of consumers and producers of this mass culture, will allow us to be more attentive consumers, considering the implications of how and what we buy, and to be more responsible producers of messages and supporters of “realities”.
The main goal is to find cultural spaces away of the mass culture, to characterize it and to include it in our creative repertoire from its aesthetic, conceptual or functional singularity.
Research Problem
What cultural spaces to which we contribute as individual are distant from the mass culture? How does this play into our production of visual images?
